RSTMH and Venoms and Toxins 2022: Snakebite Photo Competition

RSTMH is delighted to launch a photo competition in collaboration with Venoms and Toxins 2022, which is the 9th international toxinology conference at Oxford (UK), to be held on 23rd-25th August 2022. The photo competition is aimed at finding the most engaging photographic representation of work in snakebite.
The topics for the photo competition include, but are not limited to:
- The lives of patients, health workers and communities affected by snakebite
- Community programmes and organisations working on snakebite
- Prevention, diagnosis and treatment of snakebite
- Research, programme work or policy work on snakebite
- Environments of snakebite and the human/snake interaction
- Successes in snakebite work
- Challenges of working in the field of snakebite
- Venomous snakes
The photo competition is an opportunity to highlight the people, communities, activities, successes and challenges of snakebite and snakebite research.
Terms and conditions
The competition is open to all. Entrants need to be aware and abide by rules and best practice around gaining permissions of subjects and respecting their privacy and circumstances. The entrant must be the sole owner of the copyright of any material entered and have the correct permissions to use the images from the image subjects. RSTMH and Venoms and Toxins 2022 (Oxford) do not accept any liability for the publication of unlawfully reproduced material. The contest is open to all, other than paid employees (or families) of RSTMH and Venoms and Toxins 2022 (Oxford). Maximum of one entry per person. The top ten contestants will be personally notified within a month of the competition closing and the winner will be publicly announced at the Venoms and Toxins 2022. The ten best images will be featured in a photo exhibition on the RSTMH website.
The winning image will win RSTMH membership for one year and have the potential to feature on the cover of an issue of RSTMH’s journal, International Health (to be decided by RSTMH). Images should be submitted as high-quality JPEGs or PNGs. Each image should be a minimum of 300dpi and 2MB. Heavily edited/Photoshopped images will not be accepted. Neither RSTMH nor Venoms and Toxins 2022 (Oxford) take any responsibility for corrupted or late entries. By entering any material to the competition, you grant RSTMH and Venoms and Toxins 2022 (Oxford) royalty- and copyright-free permission to hold, use, edit, and reproduce it in any print or electronic media, including the Internet, throughout the world for any lawful purpose, in perpetuity. The nominees consent to the use of their images, name and/or photograph in any publicity carried out by the RSTMH and by Venoms and Toxins 2022 (Oxford), without any further compensation. All entries will be shortlisted by a panel of esteemed tropical medicine and global health professionals. The winning image will be selected by attendees of Venoms and Toxins 2022. The deadline for submissions is Monday 11th July 16:00 BST.
